On July 29, 2010, the SSRC hosted a delegation of five representatives from the Central Theoretical Council of Viet Nam along with several representatives of other Vietnamese state agencies, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National External Relations Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, and the Permanent Mission of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to the United Nations.
The Central Theoretical Council of Viet Nam is an organization that serves as the advisory body to the Vietnamese Communist Party, the Politiburo, and the Party Secretariat on issues of political theory.
Tran Quyet Thang, a representative of the Mission of Viet Nam to the UN, stated the group’s goal was “to learn about the framework of organization of [the] Social Science Research Council” and “exchange and share the practice of [the] Social Science Research Council and experience in researching and introducing the results of research into real life, especially social science.”
SSRC representatives shared information about their respective programs, and Executive Director Mary McDonnell gave an overview of organizational structure, funding, and program areas.
